Verdant Study
About this piece
Verdant Study began as a color-and-light exercise: how to make foliage read as a structural element rather than background noise. The composition keeps the figure small and the leaves large, so the plant forms become the real subject.
The palette was limited to a narrow range of greens and warm neutrals, with a single cool accent in the shadow side. Demo content.

Process
Thumbnail sketches
Three compositional directions: figure-centered, environment-centered, and this final plant-as-structure approach.
Value block-in
Established the light source and major shadow shapes before adding color, to keep the reading clear at thumbnail size.
Color refinement
Limited palette applied in layers; final pass pushed temperature contrast between light and shadow.
